As a German author, historian and media scholar, Dr. Christian Hardinghaus has published more than 30 books. His English catalog currently includes 12 titles, with further translations and new releases in progress.
A major focus of his work is historical nonfiction about World War II, based on more than 100 eyewitness interviews with German soldiers, women, refugees, child soldiers and survivors. These books document wartime experiences with historical context, critical distance and a clear rejection of glorification.
Beyond history, Hardinghaus also writes true crime investigations, including research on the Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon case, as well as the Cities of Shadow thriller series and the historical novel In Annemarie’s Eyes.
You can also explore the main research hubs: World War II History, True Crime & Forensics and Manipulation & Propaganda.
Research, Sources & Responsibility
Many of these books deal with historically and ethically sensitive subjects: war, dictatorship, displacement, survival, crime and public memory. The aim is not sensationalism, nostalgia or glorification, but careful documentation, narrative clarity and responsible historical interpretation.
The nonfiction works draw on eyewitness interviews, archival material, letters, photographs, forensic documentation and media analysis. Personal testimonies are presented with context and critical classification.
